The Good Life

Bridger's mom Mary Ann watched Norah during this week's date night. When we returned to pick her up, Norah was playing on a cashmere throw Mary Ann got in Mongolia. She must have realized the great privilege this was because she didn't even spit up on it (and we all know how rare that is).

Yard Work

Today Nana taught Norah how to water flowers. Next week Nick will teach her how to mow the lawn.

The Perils of Modern Day Life

I was supposed to meet the Executive Presbyter (Presbyterians' version of a bishop) this morning for coffee. When he hadn't arrived 15 minutes after we were supposed to meet, I called him and said, "I'm at the Starbucks on Speer across from the 7 News building." To which he said, "I'm at the Starbucks on Speer across from the 7 News building." But we were both at different Starbucks. Ridiculous.

Learning to Share

A "seasoned" church lady walked right up to Nick yesterday and said: "Sherry's hogging Norah. She held her almost all day at the church retreat and now she's holding her again." I knew we would have to teach Norah to share. I didn't know we would need to teach 70-year-old women how to share Norah.

Happy Father's/Popos' Day!

As many compliments as I receive about Norah, I must get equally as many about what a great father Nick is, and all of those people are exactly right. I love watching Norah's face whenever Nick walks in a room. She gives a big gummy smile and her deep guttural laugh. She's as in love with him as he is with her. It's really hard to overstate what a great dad Nick is.

On a different note: at father's day dinner, Norah launched herself at Popos' glass of iced tea, and while she was mouthing the glass, she snuck the lemon wedge. I don't think raw lemon has ever been suggested as a baby's first solid food, but in spite of an initial pucker, Norah didn't seem to mind it.

Bradley Class Reunion, Part Deux

We had an early father's day gathering with a few families from our Bradley class. One of the babies, who is one week older than Norah, is already 21 pounds. Norah tried to make the other babies jealous by showing off her mad skills: she threw up four times and blew out of her diaper twice in less than two hours. None of the other babies even came close. Because of her free flowing body fluids, her outfit kept getting whittled down until she ended up in the outfit in the last photo. I think she just wanted to emulate Olivia Newton-John in the "Let's Get Physical" music video.

Pridefest

We staffed Central's booth at Pridefest this morning where we had a woman approach our booth because she wanted to know more about Sophie, who Norah was chomping on. Not long later, tragedy struck - Sophie was tossed from Norah's car seat, and we weren't able to find her. At least, we have two more.

Using TLC's cut-outs, Norah experimented with the role of beauty pagent princess. From her face, it seems she's not interested in reprising the role.

Age of Aquariums

Today's Friday field trip was to the downtown aquarium (where Nick kept singing "the age of aquariums"). Since some of Norah's favorite hobbies are watching leaves blow in the wind and watching the dogs' tails wag, we thought she would be fond of fish. She loved the ducks and the rainbow trout, but she much preferred the tiny bland fish to the sharks that share their tank. We're so glad Kim played hooky and joined us!

Sunday Nap

I came home from a meeting yesterday to find Nick and Norah napping in identical positions.

Little Mermaid

After a few more trips the pool, Norah is starting to enjoy swimming. When we went to the condo pool this weekend, we even got our first in-pool smile and a few giggles.

Pre-pool play time is also highly valued. Note Norah's tight grip on Sophie. She has three Sophies, so wherever she goes, she's never far from her favorite French giraffe. Many thanks to Campbell and Ella for turning us onto the wonders of Sophie and for giving Norah her first giraffe. (Nick is so amazed by how insanely trendy Sophie is and how much she costs that he's decided to make his first million by creating an Italian zebra named Mario. If French plastic is better than Chinese plastic, then Italian plastic is undoubtedly the best of all.)

Guinea Pig

We had dinner with friends who are expecting their second, so Norah became the guinea pig for big sister Kaitlyn to try out this whole baby thing.

Church Directory

The new church photo directory just arrived. It seems the church didn't want Norah to be excluded, so she got her own picture.

People's Fair

Norah helped us staff Central's booth at the People's Fair - where she made her way into one of the giveaway bags.

Lions and Tigers and Bears, Oh My!

Today's field trip - hurray for Nick and I both having Friday's off during the summer - was to the Wild Animal Sanctuary on the eastern plains of Colorado. (Because who doesn't think of Colorado when in need of a place to house a stray lion?!?) While the 25 Bolivian lions they just rescued are still in a private pavilion, we saw tons of lions, tigers and bears. The wind and Norah partnered in donating her pink hat to the lions for an afternoon snack. Even with all of the animals we saw today, Norah's favorite fuzzy critter is still her Popos!

4 Months Old

Norah visited Dr. Bryan for her 4 month doctor's appointment. The shots left her fussy and tired again, but, other than that, it was a good appointment. Her current stats are:

14 pounds, 2 ounces (60%)
24 1/2 inches (55%)

Seeing as she is mature and sophisticated now, she is perfecting the skill of screaming for screaming's sake. She screeches as loud as she can and then smiles as if she is immensely proud of herself. Her new talents caused us to leave restaurants early twice this week. Our eating out days are greatly numbered.
