Tasty Avocado

I was hoping to put off starting Norah on solid foods until after our trip, but it's been clear she's been interested in food for a few weeks now. Yesterday she launched herself across the blanket at my salad, and I finally caved. She was so excited about her first bites of avocado that she kept lunging for it (sometimes mistaking wasabi for avocado - wouldn't that be a rude awakening?).

A Walk in the Park

Friday's Field Trip was a nice long (6 hours!) walk around our neighborhood and downtown Denver. We stopped to cool off in the rivers at Confluence Park and then hid out in REI during (yet another) torrential down pour. Norah loved putting her fingers and toes in the sand on the riverbank. We let her enjoy the water until she starting lapping it up like a dog.

A Very Merry Unbirthday to Nick

If you've known Nick longer than 13 seconds, you know his crazy affinity for news and news anchors. (He's so nuts about such things that when Tim Russert died on the evening we were celebrating our anniversary, we had to postpone our dinner reservations, so we could stay in the hotel room and watch the news coverage.) Because of this fascination, I have been trying to schedule a private tour of 9 News since April 2010, thinking we could go for Nick's birthday. Since July 6th was the day 9 News was willing to schedule the tour, we turned it into a surprise unbirthday celebration for Nick.

Mark Koebrich even mentioned Norah during the 4 o'clock news (and by mention, I mean he said something like "that baby in the studio"). Film on the Rocks

There is no place quite as amazing as Red Rocks, epecially when you're there for a Film on the Rocks showing of "Top Gun" and a pre-show meal of wine and cupcakes. (Sure, there was a BBQ too, but who needs a hot dog when there's wine and cupcakes?)
Last time we were there, for Norah Jones, we got absolutely soaked, and last night the weather did not disappoint either. It is Red Rocks, after all.

Identity Crisis

I went in for a hair cut this week and asked my stylist why my new shampoo was making my hair straighter. She corrected me, explaining that it was growing in straighter ever since I gave birth, and there's nothing I can do to change it. Since Norah was born, I've had my fingers crossed that she will have curly hair because what would I do with a straight-haired daughter? Now my anxiety has shifted to myself: what will I do with straight hair?!?!? The strange and unexpected ways pregnancy changes a body..., and to think I was just getting over the shock of having practically see-through teeth for the first month after giving birth!

Five Month Update

A couple updates on the developmental front in honor of Norah's five month birthday...

About two weeks ago, Norah added rolling from tummy to back to her repertoire, and now she can really cover some ground.

She's also pulling her knees under her and rocking back and forth on all fours. Whenever she does it, Nick encourages her to crawl to him, and I try to convince her to lay motionless. Not only am I not ready to child proof the house, I am not ready for her to leave behind anymore of her little baby self than she already has.

5280 Day

Today's Friday Field Trip was sponsored by the number 5280. We celebrated life in the Mile High City with a tour of the state capital where we just missed Governor Hickenlooper but caught a glimpse of his denim clad backside. (Nick saw him earlier but didn't point him out to me until he was almost in the capital. I think Nick was afraid I would ask Hick for a picture with Norah - which, of course, I would have done.) Before leaving we had to take a picture with the official mile high marker on the steps.

After a little meandering on the 16th Street Mall and cool beverages at the 27th floor Peaks Lounge, with a panoramic view of the mountains and city, we headed to Coors Field for Norah's second baseball game - where Nana made it possible for us to go on the field to watch the post-game fireworks. Tiny headphones courtesy of Kim's special ed classroom helped with the booming noise, but the sights alone were stimulating enough to elicit some very wide eyes. While she continued to be her pleasant self, Norah didn't go to sleep for two hours after the fireworks ended.

Since I never got around to blogging about last week's Friday Field Trip, a quick word to say: if you have the opportunity to go the the Post Secret traveling art exhibit, do it! We had a great day in Golden, wandering downtown, going to Post Secret, and attempting to go on the Coors Brewery tour (the line was long, and I had to get back for a wedding rehearsal).
